One Guy Works a Lot More Than Usual

I’m still at it, readers and superfans (reader and superfan? Is anyone paying attention?), working that temp job that was only supposed to last two weeks. It’s stretching into the fourth week now, and if I’m lucky (or unfortunate, depending on how you look at it) I’ll work it next week for a total of five weeks. That’s a little more than a month of hard labor.

That’s a lot. That’s a lot to handle.

And surprisingly, I’m handling it all right. I’m a pretty scrawny guy, standing about 5’6″ and weighing in at 120 pounds, give or take a few. Bottom line, I’m pretty skinny. I don’t have too much strength in these gradually-tanned arms, but I’m trying to keep up, man. I’ve made it this far, and my supervisor says I’m doing pretty well, all things considered.

Still, like I said, a fifth week of this would be a blessing and a curse. Double-edged sword, and all that.

I like the money. I like the time I spend outside, even though I don’t get to gaze at scenery as long as I’d like to. I like keeping a schedule.

I don’t like waking up early. I don’t like spending most of my free time feeling sore and groaning every now and then. I don’t like having to remember all those little things that keep me going, like lunch and a relatively hefty water bottle and gloves and a hat and sunscreen.

(I really don’t mind all those things, but if I was gonna nitpick and complain about a little something here and there, those would comprise the something I complain about.)

I love feeling responsible. I love being motivated for once in my life. I love having enough money in my bank account to handle my expenses. I love my girlfriend. I love buying food so I can feed myself and my beautiful girlfriend. I love putting gas in my girlfriend’s car, because she’s sweet and supportive and she’s letting me borrow it during this foray into temp work.

Did I mention that I love my girlfriend? Because I love my girlfriend like crazy.

Things are so different now, but in a good way. My life is getting busier as I go along, but it’s a better kind of busy. I feel better. I eat better. I think I might even look better, but that’s neither here nor there.

I’m just really happy things are moving and I’m doing okay because of these changing movements.

I’ve been reading a little bit here and there, from a badass collection entitled “What The #@&% Is That?,” and it’s as awesome as it sounds. On the cover it describes itself as “The Saga Anthology of the Monstrous and the Macabre.” It’s right up my weird, shadow-steeped alley, and I’m digging all the stories I’ve read thus far.

I know this is supposed to be a blog about video games, but I do other stuff sometimes. I feel obliged to write about that stuff, to round things out.

Anyway, this book is rad. If you’re into anything that’s creepy and/or Lovecraftian in any way, it’s for you. If you get squeamish about inexplicable madness, creatures, and/or entities, you may want to steer clear. It’s a long foray into dark territory, and damn I love it.

So yep, to sum it all up, my life is pretty good right now, and it’s slowly but surely getting better. I feel good.

Keep on living and loving, folks.
